As executor for the Estate of Siri Berg and guardian of her art and legacy, the estate conducted a comprehensive search for the right partner to protect, promote, share and communicate, the contributions, art and teachings my artist-mother made over a 60 year career and a 98 year life. After an exhausting search, we discovered Artist Estate Studio and their founders, Jason Andrew and Julia Gleich. Two gems of the art-legacy world, Jason and Julia provide a deft touch to this task, demonstrating complete command of the public facing strategy of promotion, marketing and sales by aligning with the right galleries, museums and collectors as well as the more detail oriented, back of the house tasks that have included inventory and database management, archival research, photography, website design and art restoration. To call them stewards is a given. To me, they are more like legacy savants.

Having heard of Jason Andrew’s work on the Jack Tworkov Estate, I asked Hermine Ford (Tworkov’s daughter) about her experience. When Hermine gave Jason a glowing reference, I contacted him, even though the estate of my father, Abstract Expressionist George McNeil, hasn't generated the kind of returns that would justify an annual retainer. Instead, Jason and I agreed on a fee to set up a website; websites aren’t inexpensive as the data has to be organized and the site designed, but I felt more comfortable working with an art-based consultancy rather than a standard web design company that would have charged just as much. What you get from a website is what you put into it plus, in this case, the curatorial and design expertise of Artists Estate Studio. I had already compiled a database of George McNeil’s work, which gave me a head start, but since Jason & Co work quickly and vigorously, the more ducks you have in a row before starting, the faster and better the result will be. I’m tremendously pleased with our result www. georgemcneil.org and throughout the process I have felt I had partners working with me who understood the stakes.
